Wallace Mhallie

terror of the seas

At First Glance

At 5'11" and a lean build, Wallace is from a distance not the most imposing figure on the ship or in the tavern.Once closer, the multitude of piercings Wallace has becomes noticeable - several up and down his ears from lobe to top, once in his left eyebrow, and a stud in his left nostril. His tongue is also pierced. All of his piercings are a motley mixture of silver, gold, and multicolored small gems. Possibly all stolen, too. There is a faint scar across his left cheek, from near the corner of his eye almost to the corner of his mouth, but nothing terribly grotesque. He still has all his limbs - and all his teeth! He's lucky, for a pirate.Under his clothes, tattoos of snakes wrap around his arms - heads and bared fangs on his hands and tails at his shoulders. An empty-eyed skull sitting on a few native Doman flowers is tattooed on his abdomen, and across his chest are two crossed swords with more of the same flowers. On his back are dark wings of a bird, outstretched in flight. On his hip bone is a small raven, perched on a branch and peering upwards. There are additional bands of tattoos on both arms - around his biceps and forearms just below the elbow - as well as running in a straight line up his spine and down the back of both legs down to his ankles. The dark symbols and runes, clearly magical in nature, seem to shift and dance, jostling each other for space. A similar, but smaller and thinner line of runes are tattooed up in a straight line on the right side of his neck, between collarbone and jaw. Their colors shift from various shades of blue and purple, to sometimes black or grey.

Youth

Born on a small farm on the outskirts of Limsa Lominsa, Wallace is the only child of struggling farmers. He spent his youth helping his ailing parents tend the farm. Due to his father's alcoholism and chronic severe back pain, and his mother's mental health problems, Wallace bore the brunt of the work required from the farm from an early age. The family lived in extreme poverty and were always at risk of losing the farm for good.

Young Adulthood

Wallace struck out on his own as soon as he could. At the age of fourteen, he joined the crew of The Azure Anchor, a pirate ship lead by Captain Alfred Crowe, a former Limsan navy officer. Starting as a simple deckhand, Wallace worked his way up the ranks - eventually reaching his highest career point aboard the Azure Anchor as the chief navigator at the age of 21.Captain Crowe sensed that Wallace had never received any real guidance, education, or proper oversight as a child, so he took Wallace under his wing to try and straighten him out - at least as much as a pirate could. Captain Crowe was an old-fashioned sailor who was adamant that ships belong in the water, not the air, and that magitek gadgetry could not replace proper sailing knowledge. These views rubbed off on Wallace to a great extent, and Captain Crowe became more of a father to Wallace than his biological one. An unfortunate mutiny aboard Crowe's ship resulted in Crowe's murder, and the ship sinking not far from Limsa Lominsa.Through some kind of miracle that Wallace does not easily share the details of, Wallace survived - though it seems he's paying a price for that miracle. For several years, Wallace captained his own ship, the Grace, named for his daughter that his estranged ex-girlfriend kept from him. An independent pirate ship that sailed under no flag but his own, Wallace made a fortune by targeting Garlean ships - and others, on occasion. He might hate the Garlean empire, but greed is greed and he wouldn't turn down a good mark. There is at least one remote coastal fishing village that has gone up in smoke suspiciously around the same time the Grace was spotted sailing away. There is a period time, almost a whole year, where the Grace, her captain, and crew were unaccounted for. Wallace does not share where they went or what he was doing in this time span - though those who knew him prior to this voyage and have caught up with him after his return note that he seems... different.

Recent Events

Wallace is still the captain of the Grace technically, and still owns the ship - but these days he has no crew and the ship is docked safely in a secret location. He has not retired or given up on a life of piracy, but has instead opted to explore opportunities on dry land that afford him the ability to visit his daughter more often. Knowing he wouldn't be able to take proper care of her after her mother's untimely death, she's being cared for by Wallace's maternal aunt, Alice. She also is caring for Wallace's father as he works on sobering up.Currently, Wallace is on the hunt for whatever kind of work puts more coin in his pocket.

Magic Comes With a Price

Secret

Dark magic and darker pacts are topics rarely spoken about in any company - polite or not. Those with knowledge of aether, magic, or anything of the sort will sense that something is a bit off about Wallace. The aura of his aether is strongly associated with water - but not the type found in warm, inviting, life-giving springs. No, his is that of storms and swells, waves that crash hard enough to break ship and bone alike, and water that is chilling, deep, and dark as night.Even further, there is a hint of something dark under the surface. A second entity with its own aether signature, separate and apart from Wallace's. Hidden from plain sight in some way that is not obvious, it is some eldritch horror that has surfaced from the deep where it once called home. At times it lays deep and dormant, sleeping and undisturbed, but at times it surfaces. Whether Wallace controls this thing - if at all - remains to be seen.

Plot Hooks

  • A fellow pirate who has heard of Captain Mhallie, The Grace, and its crew. Maybe you've only heard tales - or maybe we were competitors.

  • A victim of one of Wallace's pirate raids, on land or at sea. Did you find him for revenge, or answers?

  • Law enforcement on the trail of a ne'er-do-well, and that trail leads right to Wallace.

  • A researcher with interest in dark magic of various kinds including possession, ritual pacts, otherworldly creatures, the Void, sacrifices, or anything generally occult and horrific. Is Wallace a curiosity, or a test subject?

  • An individual or company who needs some dirty work done and is looking to hire a mercenary, bodyguard, or assassin.

  • A gambling addict looking for a loan. Just a few more gil to get you that next win, then you can pay it all off... promise.

Hi! If you've read this far you haven't been completely bored by Wallace's card. That's good news!I'm a returning player and roleplayer who has been away from FFXIV for some time now, since prior to the release of Endwalker. I'm doing a bit of a reset-and-restart of Wallace to start fresh after my return and take his story in a different direction.I'm a fairly casual player who works full time and is primarily available on weekends. My time during the weekday is very limited. I'm happy to make new contacts with roleplayers and friendly people in general. As a character, Wallace takes heavy inspiration from D&D warlocks for aesthetics and flavor purposes. I try and find ways to tie this all back to the FFXIV setting so nothing is too glaring or wild. Roleplay with Wallace will likely involve darker themes and he may not be for the faint of heart. If you want to know if I'm interested in roleplaying with you, your group, or have ideas, shoot me a tell in-game and lets discuss!

Looking For:

  • Literate roleplayers who like plots and stories

  • Roleplay that involves dark, creepy, violent, and/or adult themes

  • People who are comfortable plotting or chatting on Discord

  • Players who understand I might play other games besides FFXIV, and that is not a reflection on you or our roleplay. Its a reflection of me having the attention span of a squirrel when tired.

  • Players that understand I sometimes want to play the game too and not stand around half-afk in town

  • Roleplay events that are small to medium-small in size (1-6 people or so)

Not Looking For:

  • Drama, gaslighting, insults, manipulation, trash-talking, or abuse

  • Slice of life roleplay

  • Trolls, haters, bigots, or homophobes

  • Very large scale roleplay events with minimal input from all individuals

  • People who get uncomfortable, but then don't say anything
